Southwest Fireplace is looking to hire an experienced technician or carpenter to be responsible for the production and quality of the products they install according to a range of tasks to be completed, as assigned daily. Timely production, quality of work and maintaining a safe work environment are crucial in this role. The ideal candidate will bring the following to the Southwest Fireplace team: framing skills, solid work ethic, experience in carpentry, masonry, fireplaces or the like, gas-line experience, electrical experience, willingness to learn, and valid driver’s license.

The Carpenter or Technician is responsible for completing a variety of job tasks involving general carpentry, drywall, and fireplace, mantel, stone or gas grill installation. Job responsibilities vary to your experience, capabilities, and training. This position will also require performing general labor duties as needed. Other job duties include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities Include:

  • Able to operate various hand tools, power tools and equipment used to complete fireplace, outdoor patio, and related installation, in a safe and responsible manner
  • Complete daily jobs as assigned, effectively communicate (both verbal and written) with the Sales Project Managers and administrative team
  • Comply with company policies and procedures
  • Read and interpret instructions and specifications
  • Customer and quality focus, respectful customer interactions
  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs and work in various conditions: outdoors or on construction jobsites

        Job Description

            Southwest Fireplace is seeking a full-time, installation technician apprentice at our Frankfort and Aurora, IL showrooms. Applicants must be able to speak and read English, demonstrate willingness to learn, and enjoys working both independently and as part of a team.


            Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:15 AM – 4:00 PM & willingness to work occasional Saturdays during winter months

            Job Description
            The Fireplace Technician Apprentice must complete various tasks which may involve general carpentry, drywall and installation of fireplaces, mantels, stone, gas grills, etc. Daily responsibilities vary dependent upon experience, capabilities, and training. This position is responsible for other general labor duties as needed. Additional technician responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

            • Ability to operate various hand tools, power tools and equipment used to complete fireplace, outdoor patio, and related installation, in a safe and responsible manner;
            • Complete daily jobs as assigned, effectively communicate (both verbal and written) with the Sales Project Managers and administrative team;
            • Compliance with company policies and procedures;
            • Read and interpret instructions and specifications;
            • Customer and quality focus, respectful customer interactions;
            • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs+ and work in various conditions: outdoors or on construction jobsites

            Qualifications, Skills, and/or Experience:

            • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
            • Must speak, read, and understand English
            • Own basic tools necessary to complete scheduled work
            • Must not be afraid of heights
            • Comfortable on a ladder and knowledgeable about ladder and jobsite safety
            • Experience in carpentry, masonry, drywall, or fireplace industry is a plus but not required — paid, on-the-job training will be provided!
            • Experience driving a box truck, preferred
            • Ethics, integrity, responsibility and dependability
            • Problem solving skills, drive to succeed
            • Self-motivated and ability to work as a team
            • Reliable transportation to and from work

            Preferred Skills (but not required):

            • Experience with gas fireplace installation or service
            • NFI (National Fireplace Institute) Certification
            • HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing experience
